Sumac-Crusted Salmon

The best Philly Cheesesteak I ever had was at a convention center in Chicago. I was in the city for a few days, and whilst there I matched with a man on Tinder.

His bio said he was an "Italian Stallion"; I assumed that was a reference to his ethnicity, but it turned out that was his Fursona.

When I travel, I always try to immerse myself in the local culture. So when he invited me to attend the annual Furry Convention, I happily agreed.

We made plans to meet the following day; he assured me I would recognize him, as his horse costume was accessorized with a halter in the colors of the Italian flag. Unfortunately, I am colorblind - a fact I neglected to mention. He had informed me that he wouldn't be reachable via Tinder or text message, as his fur suit didn't have pockets, so I had no way to contact him when I realized my error.

In the spirit of making the best of the situation, I decided to attend the convention anyway. When I arrived, the sea of costumes was awe-inspiring. All manner of dogs, cats, aquatic life, equines, bovines, and mythical creatures greeted me, as far as my eyes could see. The craftsmanship of the fur-suits was, in most cases, exceptional as well. I had never seen anything quite like it!

I attended a keynote about cosplay crafting, strolled through the array of vendor booths, and visited a few delicious food trucks during the day. Although I never did meet up with the "Italian Stallion", luck would have it that I caught the eye of another horse-suited man. He was tall, with a pale mane and tail, and when he approached he said that he'd seen how I'd eaten a hotdog earlier, and he was impressed with my tenacity.

One thing led to another, and we ended up attending an afterparty together. A truly wild night ensued, which I'll never forget. As I came to learn: the difference between my equine-furry companion, and a real horse? ...not much ;)
